Tyson Fury Tests Positive For COVID-19; Fight With Wilder Postponed
Tyson Fury’s rematch with Deontay Wilder looks set to be postponed after a coronavirus outbreak in the Fury camp.
The pair have fought twice already with Fury winning the second fight after the first was deemed a draw. It looked as if Fury would then take on Anthony Joshua, but Wilder went to court to exercise a clause he had for a third fight.
Fury has tested positive for COVID-19 after a member of his staff contracted the virus this week, according to reports from Sky Sports and ESPN.
The Gypsy King hasn’t yet revealed if he’s been vaccinated or not, but Wilder’s manager Shelly Finkel has blasted the British fighter stating that he hasn’t had both doses of the Pfizer vaccine as both camps had agreed.
The pair’s world heavyweight fight was scheduled for July 24 and it will now be difficult to find a new date for the event.
American broadcaster Fox already have a massive pay-per-view event coming up on August 21 between Manny Pacquiao and Errol Spence. Having two expensive PPV events in the same month isn’t seen as feasible, and a new date at the end of September or October is being rumoured.
The judge who oversaw the rematch dispute between the pair ordered that it be before September 15, which shouldn’t be a problem if both camps come to an agreement, however they will have to avoid clashing with a possible Canelo Alvarez fight in mid-September.
An official announcement on the matter is expected from organisers Top Rank in the coming hours.
