The Fury-Joshua Fight and Wilder’s $20 Million Paycheck

Tyson Fury received confirmation on Monday from the Saudi royal family that he was going to make 75 million dollars for facing Anthony Joshua and announced on his social networks that the deal was reached.

However, hours later judge Daniel Weinstein, who acted as mediator, ruled that the ‘Gypsy King’ must fulfil his contractual obligation and face Deontay Wilder before September 15.

It is true that ‘The Bronze Bomber’ activated the rematch clause when he lost the second fight with the Englishman, but Fury’s team of representatives considered it expired as the pandemic prevented both contestants from getting back into the ring before the stipulated deadlines.

Is the fight between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua dead?

The answer is no, but now the ball is in the court of Wilder and his demands as the ‘Gypsy King’ says he has asked them for 20 million dollars to step aside.

“We’re not paying Wilder to step aside,” Fury’s US promoters Top Rank founder Bob Arum told the ESPN. “It’s better to get rid of him and go about our business. We can make the Fury-Joshua fight for November or December.”

To date, the largest outlay in a similar case has been made by Don King, who paid Lennox Lewis four million dollars to step aside so Tyson could fight Bruce Seldon. The condition that was introduced was that later ‘Iron Mike’ would face the Lion, his number one contender for the WBC, who ended up stripping the American fighter of his belt.

What did Wilder say?

Wilder has not spoken out publicly, but his new coach Malik Scott stressed that wants to fight and is not interested in compensation.

“Wilder declined and had no interest in step-aside money,” said Scott.

“You all dealing with a whole different type of motherf***er over here.

“He want blood, not that step-aside money. ‘Retribution is upon us’.”

Deontay could reach either a financial or sporting agreement and end up facing the winner of the fight between Joshua and Fury.

What did Fury say?

Some believe that Fury is not in good shape, but he has been preparing this month in Las Vegas and Miami. The last thing did was to share on his social networks a list of 26 excuses that Deontay Wilder made about his defeat.

“What a joke Deontay Wilder has become asked for 20 million to move over joker looks like I have to crack his skull again,” Fury wrote on social media.

How about Anthony Joshua?

Joshua simply told his promoter Eddie Hearn to get to work to find a solution after being informed of the new twist. Hearn has already made his moves and is looking for a new option, as convincing Wilder could be too expensive.

The promoter has acknowledged that he is looking for “an alternative fight,” and the chosen one is Oleksandr Usyk, the former undisputed cruiserweight champion.
