LASEPA Trains Staff On Modern Environmental Monitoring

Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) has organised a day training for its staff on the modern approach to environmental monitoring.

Speaking during the training held at the agency’s office, Alausa, Ikeja, LASEPA General Manager, Engr. Rasheed Adebola Shabi said the training is aimed at ensuring that it’s staff discharge their duties professionally especially the billing and monitoring department which is saddled with the responsibility of monitoring, tracking and controlling all forms of environmental degradation in the state through inspection and collection of samples in manufacturing industries, commercial operations as well as monitoring and collecting data on the quality of air, water and land couple with issuance of bills.

He stated further that the need for the 2nd edition of the training is to ensure that all staff are properly re-orientated and well informed about coordinating themselves when visiting the related industries.

Shabi emphasized that LASEPA has a standard that should be maintained at all times by those sent out to all related industries which includes: to educate the industries on the occupational hazard, the high risk associated with their processing and the need to have effluent water tank in order to cut the risk of accidic outbreak in the community.

He further enjoined the staff to see themselves as environmental auditor who want the best for the people of Lagos state. He also said visiting related manufacturing company is not about giving them fine but comportment, ethnics and assertive of the standard.

The Head of Department (HOD) of billing and monitoring department, Mrs. Funmilayo Opaleye thanked the General Manager for approving the training and enjoined all the staff to be diligent and dedicated to their job.
