The feud over who controls the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has deepened with counter accusations. While Governor Nyesom Wike has accused the National Chairman, Ali Modu Sheriff of being a mole planted by the Federal Government to destroy the party, Ali Modu Sheriff accused governors Nyesome Wike and Ayodele Fayose of Rivers and Ekiti states of sponsoring former President Goodluck Jonathan ‘into a failed peace efforts.’

The party, at a press conference addressed by Sheriff’s deputy, Cairo Ojougbo, in Abuja also alleged that Wike funded the meeting with N50 million. But in a swift reaction, Jonathan’s media aide, Ikechukwu Eze, dismissed the allegation as untrue.

He said: “The former president intervened in the crisis because of his genuine commitment to bring about peace in the party that made him president. I don’t think anybody will believe that he collected money from anybody to organise the meeting.

It is out of his genuine concern to bring peace in the party.” And governor Fayose who reacted through his media aide, Lere Olayinka, said: “If Ali Modu Sheriff has taken his desperation to serve his pay masters in the APC to the level of accusing former President Jonathan of being bribed to organise a peace meeting for the PDP there is no reason for any sane mind to continue to respond. We are not responding.’’

Wike said irrespective of the alleged unholy alliance between the Federal Government and Sheriff, the PDP will continue to wax strong. He spoke when he received 7800 All Progressives Congress (APC) members who defected to the PDP at the Sharks Stadium, Port Harcourt, yesterday.

He pointed out that after two years, there is no single Federal Government project in the state. Swiftly, the Rivers State APC spokesperson, Chris Finebone, dismissed the alleged defection of its members.

He said the party frowns at the unlawful printing of APC membership cards and other paraphernalia which are being distributed to the hirelings.
