Naomi Osaka defeated Serena Williams in the Australian Open semi-finals, leaving Williams with the feeling that she’d just lost to her successor on the court.

Osaka has all the qualities that Williams did in her prime and sealed her fourth Grand Slam title after seeing of the American Jennifer Brady 6-4, 6-3 in one hour and 17 minutes in the final. The 23-year-old Osaka was hitting the ball like her life depended on it.

Osaka was born for the big stage, and more than half of her career titles so far have come in major tournaments.

The new Queen of Australia, who hasn’t lost since February 7 against Sara Sorribes in the Federation Cup, is on a run of 21 straight victories. She’s won the four majors finals, equalling the record of Monica Seles.

Osaka’s impressive form has lifted her to number two in the world rankings and has won a major in each of her last four campaigns. The last player to do this was none other than Serena Williams in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017.
