The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has described late Nowamagbe Austin Omoigui, as an outstanding achiever in his chosen career during his lifetime.

The governor made the remarks at a funeral mass held in honour of late Omoigui, at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Benin City.

Obaseki said, “Nowamagbe was a genius, an outstanding achiever in all he does. He was a fine gentleman who devoted his life to the service of humanity. He achieved all he planned to achieve.

“He is described by many in different ways but for me, I will describe him as a quintessential Edo man. He is better known as a military and a civilian historian who achieved greatness in his chosen career.”

He said late Nowamagbe aggregated manuscripts on some of his writing which needed to be published to impact knowledge on this generation, noting, “I am hoping that one of the projects we need to undertake posthumously for late Nowamagbe Austin Omoigui is to publish his works and launch same both here in Nigeria and abroad to keep his memory alive.”

Parish Priest of St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Rev. Fr. Edwin Omoregbe in his homily, ‘God will Judge,’ reading from the book of Mathew 25, said late Omoigui lived a very fruitful life of service as he transformed and changed souls that he encountered while on earth.

He said Nowamagbe is a life-saver who gave to charity and showed kindness, noting that he served humanity for six decades doing good and focusing on quality not quantity.

“Nowamagbe Omoigui saved lives while alive but today he is no more. The world has lost a great soul. This is the reality of life. He is no longer enslaved by death and death has no dominion over him anymore. We must focus on quality rather than quantity in life, ensuring we keep our Christians values. If this is done, Nigeria will be better,” he added.
