Rafael Nadal defeated Cameron Norrie on Friday to reach the Barcelona Open semi-finals for the 13th time in his career.

The Spaniard won 6-1, 6-4 in just one hour and 34 minutes to get his 450th win on clay, while his opponent Norrie has managed just 13 victories on the surface.

Nadal won the first set comfortably but struggled to beat his counterpart in the second until Norrie finally succumbed to world No.3’s relentless pressure.

Following his victory in the quarter-finals, Nadal will face the winner of the duel between Pablo Carreno and Diego Schwartzman on Saturday.

Tenth this year

Having participated in just two tournaments this year before the Barcelona Open, Nadal climbed to 10th position in the ATP Finals Qualification Cut behind his compatriot Roberto Bautista.

Meanwhile, if he wins the Barcelona Open, Nadal will overtake Daniil Medvedev and re-establish his place in the world’s top two.
