Lewis Hamilton won the Formula 1 British Grand Prix on Sunday at Silverstone in both controversial and dramatic fashion, pipping Charles Leclerc in the penultimate lap after having played a part in Max Verstappen’s crash at the start of the race.

The race began with controversy as Hamilton’s title rival Verstappen hit the barriers after colliding with the Englishman in the opening lap, causing the race to be stopped.

Hamilton received a ten-second penalty for his role in the incident while Verstappen had to be rushed to hospital.

The incident left Leclerc out in first, and despite suffering engine issues in Lap 15, managed to overcome the problem and dominate the race amid Hamilton’s penalty.

The Monegasque driver was able to hold his in every single lap of the race, until the 51st. Hamilton, however, had other ideas as he continued to slowly but surely narrow the gap.

By Lap 46, it was clear that it would go down to the wire, as the sizeable advantage Leclerc had enjoyed for so long had been reduced to just 2.2 seconds.

Then, on the penultimate lap, Hamilton picked his moment to overtake Leclerc on the inside as the Ferrari driver slightly spun off track, as the Mercedes man finished off the job, much to the delight of the Silverstone crowd.
