The Edo State Government has intensified the vaccination of citizens across the state’s 18 local government areas, urging those who have not been inoculated to come out and get vaccinated in order to remain healthy and protected against the deadly virus.

The State COVID-19 Incident Manager, Dr. Andrew Obi, gave the charge after the daily virtual meeting of the State COVID-19 Taskforce, chaired by the State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki.

The Incident Manager said the state has continued to record success in the management of the third wave of the pandemic as infections and deaths from the virus are gradually declining.

He said the success recorded in the management of the pandemic is attributable to the government’s move to vaccinate the majority of Edo citizens and build herd immunity against the deadly virus, urging residents to support the government’s effort at containing the pandemic by embracing the vaccination exercise.

Obi, who urged residents to continue to comply with all preventive protocols to contain the third wave of COVID-19, reassured that the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led administration will sustain its effort to check the spread of the virus and protect residents across all communities in the state.

According to him, “While the government intensifies the vaccination of residents, among other measures to contain the pandemic and ensure the health of citizens, we urge everyone to complement the government’s efforts by coming out for the vaccination, because it is the safest way to defeat the pandemic.

“The vaccines are free, safe and effective. I, therefore, call on citizens of Edo State to take advantage of the availability of the vaccines to get vaccinated.”
