Rafael Nadal has started training in Melbourne ahead of the Australian Open.

The Spaniard worked on Saturday at the Rod Laver Arena with Marc Lopez, who is his training partner during their time in Australia, after competing his 14-day quarantine period.

Nadal trained at around 19:00 local time on the court where he will play his matches in the tournament, other than the semi-final, should he make it to that stage.

His first game is on Tuesday, with him set to take on Alex de Minaur.

“[I] wanted to thank once again the people of Adelaide and South Australia for having us these past 14 days of quarantine,” Nadal posted on Twitter on Saturday.

“Also Tennis Australia for organising the exhibition we played yesterday and the people who came to watch.

“It was great to see tennis with crowds, having fun and enjoying their time. That is also a result in how well things have been done in this country.”
