The perennial traffic headache along Oshodi-Apapa Expressway in Lagos that has been claiming productive hours and terminating human lives would soon become the thing of the past with the intervention of the state Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, a man with the Midas touch.
This is the belief of a human right and pro-democracy organization, Campaign for Dignity in Governance (CDG), in a statement signed by its National Convener, Comrade Razaq Olokoba, in which he reposed confidence in the governor to achieve a resounding success in his usual manner of conquering impossibilities.
Sanwo-Olu,s intervention, through the setting up of a Special Traffic Management, Enforcement Team, according to Olokoba, would yield a fruitful result because; “Sanwo-Olu that we know never starts any project without doing his homework very well,” adding that, “this one also will not be an exception.”
Recall that, in a bid to tackle the perennial traffic gridlock around Apapa axis in the state, Governor Sanwo-Olu approved the constitution of a Special Team to resolve the traffic headache in and around Apapa axis because of his belief in the importance of smooth roads in the growing of economy. This development has its root in the governor’s declaration on December 28, 2020 that the state has taken over the traffic management of the axis from the Presidential Task Team on the decongestion of Apapa axis gridlock.
The rights group also expressed confidence in ability of the members of the team led by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Hon. Toyin Fayinka and the General Manager, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority LASTMA, Olajide Oduyoye. Other members are Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Central Business Districts, Sola Giwa and Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Political Security Intelligence, Ayodeji Laurent.
What would make the task accomplished, the CDG said, was the executive mandate given to the team to ensure zero tolerance of traffic offenders and a seamless traffic management system specifically designed to restore sanity in and around Apapa, reminding that the mandate also include creating a cohesive system that would aid the resurgence of business activities and ensure that residents live in a conducive environment devoid of traffic-induced stress and discomfort.
“And with Policemen from Area ‘B’ Police Command providing tentative security back-up for the team, pending the announcement of the new security architecture by the state government, the task of the team is believed to be accomplishable.
The CDG Boss, Olokoba reminded that Sanwo-Olu has achieved a lot of feats whenever he was confronted with any challenges in the past mentioning his performance that weakened the dreaded COVID-19 its first appearance that earned him both local and global commendations.
The organization also mentioned Sanwo-Olu’s influence during the governorship election in Ondo State as the campaign committee chairman that eventually gave his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), a resounding victory, concluding that, in due course, all the road users would sing Hosanna.
