Alleged Attempt On Lagos ex-Commissioner’s Life: YPP’s Candidate Denies Link

The attribution of reported attack on the residence of ex-Lagos Commissioner of Transport, Kayode Opeifa, to the councillorship candidate of the Young Progressives Party, YPP, at Ward D area in Orile-Agege area of the state, Omotunde Afolabi, has drawn the reaction of the accused, Worldtopnewsng exclusive report.

In the wee hours of Sunday, hoodlums attacked Opeifa’s Agege residence, allegedly firing gunshots and hurling dangerous weapons at the building.

The ex-commissioner who was not around when the dastardly act was carried out said the perpetrators’ target was to kill him if they had met him at home.

The All Progressives Congress, APC, chieftain went on to point accusing fingers at Afolabi, a former member of the ruling party.

“On Saturday, hoodlums supporting the YPP candidate took the people of Oyewole hostage, attacking people at will. They gathered in front of my house. And came back around 3.00am on Sunday to attack my residence, firing gunshots and throwing stones. I was the main target but I thank God I was not at home,” he told gazelle news.

Afolabi pushed back at accusation of instigating the hoodlums saying his accuser is hunted by the alleged penchant for overriding majority decisions and promoting unpopular ones.

Giving his account in an interview with Worldtopnewsng, the YPP candidate said, “Let me set the record straight, I don’t know anything about the attack on his residence, everyone in Orile-Agege knows how responsible I’m, I don’t harbour criminals so I don’t have any.

“This is the time for our leaders to know that people’s choice comes first. With my score during the APC primary, he (Kayode Opeifa) ought to have known that I’m the people’s choice. I won the primary convincingly, the leadership of the party gave me LASIEC form, I filled it and submitted it back to the party.”

Continued: “On the day of validation of candidate at LASIEC, I was turned back that my name has been substituted to the person I defeated with wide margin during the primary.

“He (Opeifa) did not inform me, neither my Ward Chairman nor LG Chairman, none of them was aware. He didn’t inform anyone that he has substituted my name for another person.

“When I consulted the people of my Ward on the development, they all asked me to join any party or even zero party to get back my mandate and I did. They came out en masse to vote for me, kudos to them.”

The YPP councillorship candidate had vied for APC ticket but left the party after its primary claiming he won but was robbed of his mandate by Opeifa.
