A pro-democracy advocate and human rights activist, Comrade James Adeyemi, has taken a critical look at the political pedigree of the Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola, SAN, and declared that “Come 2023, the presidential cap fits the 58 years old Minister.”

Adeyemi, who is the Convener of a right organization, Black Youth Vanguard (BYV), in a chat with our correspondent in Lagos on Tuesday said, “as a patriotic Nigerian who desire the best for the country, I have the right under the law in a democratic setting like Nigeria to air my view on the situation in my country,” asserting that, “there is nothing wrong in making an observation that would benefit the citizenry.”

Though the youthful activist said he was never prompted by anybody to make the observation, he reasoned that, he needed nobody’s permission to partake in national discourse as a matured adult, adding that, “till date, I have not had any contact with the Minister either physically or by proxy.”

According to him, as a leader of a pro-democracy and right organization, it is not out of place to comment on issues of national interest, declaring that, he is ever ready, as usual, to make suggestions on how the country could be better govern for the good people of the country to scrutinise with a view to taking the right steps towards the right direction.

Speaking further, Adeyemi said his choice of Fashola was borne out of his track record since when he was the governor of Lagos State for eight years which makes his name a household one till date, adding that, “even now, as Minister of Works and Housing, his performance and achievements in infrastructure development is now the talk of the town!”

The human rights fighter believed that odd is in favour of the towering Senior Advocate of Nigeria in terms of agility, energy, performance and age-wise, pointing out that, “at 58 now, Fashola would be 60 in 2023, meaning that, he will still be under 70 after two terms in office as President.”

What makes the whole scenario more interesting, Adeyemi revealed, is the gentleman agreement on the rotational system that has zoned the 2023 presidential slot to the south, enthusing that, Fashola would beat any other contestants going by his track record that has made him the cynosure of all eyes across the country and beyond.

“At the fullness of time, we will mobilise all the like minds, who desire the best for the country to approach him with the presidential proposal. And if he sees reasons with us, we will campaign for him. But if he declines, we shall cross the bridge when we get there,” Adeyemi concluded.
