A group, Yewa Civil Vanguard, has described as reckless and unfounded, the statement credited to the candidate of the Allied People’s Movement (APM) in the Ogun State 2019 governorship election, Hon. Adekunle Akinlade, that Governor Dapo Abiodun’s visit to the crisis-ridden Yewa axis of the State was as a result of his criticisms, saying nothing could be more specious and unfounded.

Declaring Akinlade’s statement as mischievous and aimed at reaping undue political gains from the situation in Yewaland, the group warned him to stop making inflammatory statements capable of stoking tension in the State.

Yewa Civil Vanguard made its position known in a statement released in Sango-Ota, Ogun State, on Tuesday and signed by its secretary, Alhaji Waheed Adesola.

According to it, Prince Abiodun, being a security conscious Governor, took the right step by sending a security team, including commissioners and advisers, to assess the situation before visiting the area, adding that he is on top of the security situation in the State.

The statement read: It is generally known that Governors are not in charge of the police or military, yet Governor Abiodun, who Nigerians would recall successfully rescued abducted pastors of the RCCG shortly after he assumed office, has given security agencies in the State all the support necessary to contain the crisis in Yewaland.

“Governor Abiodun’s swift response and visit to the areas affected by the conflict is symbolic of his commitment towards the security of lives and property in Ogun State.

“As a true leader who holds the peoples mandate, he has demonstrated his commitment by deploying resources and mechanism to ensuring peaceful coexistence of all the people of Ogun State and those who have made the Gateway State their home.

Akinlade is living in a fools paradise; he should wake up from his slumber and join the train of real and productive co-travellers who are building the future of our State together.

The statement added that even before now, Prince Abiodun had always been methodical, inclusive, responsible and responsive in his approach to governance, wondering why the APM candidate chose to approximate the goodwill of his development agenda in Ogun State and attract cheap glory to himself.

The statement urged Akinlade and his cohorts to join in the process of restoring peace in the troubled area instead of trying to manipulate a process which is already yielding positive results.
