Lewandowski Score Brace In Bayern Munich Comeback Win

Spread the love

Bayern Munich survived a sizeable scare on Sunday as they came from two goals down to beat Mainz 5-2 at the Allianz Arena.

The visitors went into the break with a two-goal advantage thanks to strikes from Jonathan Burkardt and Alexander Hack.

Hansi Flick brought on Niklas Sule and Leon Goretzka at half time, with the substitutions providing the spark to ignite a Bayern comeback.

Goals from Joshua Kimmich and Leroy Sane had levelled the match before the hour mark before Sule added a third goal in the 70th minute.

Robert Lewandowski got in on the act in the closing stages, converting a penalty that Serge Gnabry had won and turning in Thomas Muller’s cross for the hosts’ fifth goal.

The win takes Bayern back to the top of the Bundesliga, moving two points ahead of RB Leipzig in second. Mainz stay in the relegation zone.
