Two Die, Another Injured In Lagos Collapsed Building

Two artisans were yesterday killed and another injured after a building collapsed in Lekki area of Lagos State.

The building, situated at Nicon Town Estate, Admiralty Way in Lekki Phase One, was under construction when it caved in around 11:40a.m.

The deceased simply identified as Tasiu and Abdulahi were crushed by the collapsed beams of the structure while they were mixing concretes for parapet. They were trapped under the rubble of the collapsed building and were only extricated when rescue workers arrived the scene.

Sources said the collapse might have been caused by the vibration of the machine used in mixing the concrete. According to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), another artisan, Yakub, sustained some injuries and was rushed to a private hospital.

The agency said the scene has been condoned off, adding that appropriate investigation would be conducted. Officers of the Lagos State police command attached to Maroko police station cordoned off the area.

While emergency workers were still battling with the situation, there was a distress call about a fire outbreak at Bedmate in Lekki and a fallen petrol tanker around Badagry, which was spilling its content on the road.

Meanwhile, a commercial motorcyclist, popularly called Okada, was yesterday crushed to death by a trailer at Daleko Bridge in Isolo, Lagos. He was identified as Biliaminu Olayiwola.

The General Manager, Lagos Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Adesina Tiamiyu, confirmed the incident, saying that the agency received a distress call around 9:19a.m. concerning an accident at Daleko Bridge inward Isolo, which prompted the immediate activation of the agency’s Emergency Response Team (ERT) to the scene of the accident.

“Investigation conducted at the scene revealed that a bike man was crushed under a trailer while trying to make a U-turn. The driver of the trailer absconded immediately the accident occurred but was later apprehended by police officers and was taken to Olosan Police Station, Mushin, for further interrogation.

“Unfortunately, the driver of the bike identified as Biliaminu Olayiwola, lost his life. His body was recovered by the LASEMA’s response team and handed over to the police.”

He advised motorists and commercial motorcyclists to always ensure utmost safety while on the highway to avoid unnecessary loss of lives.

In another development, the police at Isheri Oshun division have intensified efforts at unraveling the circumstance behind the disappearance of a two-year old boy who was later found dead with his genitals severed off in Lagos.

According to a police source, the body was recovered in a septic tank at No. 6, Taylor Oliver Street in Ijegun, a suburb of Lagos, while shockingly his penis was carefully removed with a sharp knife.

It was gathered that the boy, simply identified as Seun, got missing last weekend for three days and the parents searched everywhere in the neighborhood to locate him to no avail.

However, on Wednesday, his body was found in a septic tank where the neighbours had earlier searched only to discover some parts of his body cut off.
