Ecuador’s UK Ambassador Rejects Wikileaks’ Claims That Assange Is About To Be Expelled From Its London Embassy

The ambassador for Ecuador this Friday insisted there is ‘no change’ in Julian Assange’s position and it is an “offence” to the country to suggest he will be expelled from its embassy.

Marchán said: “There is no change in the Señor Julian Assange’s situation. To say we are going to take him out the embassy is an offence to Ecuador”, said Haime Marchán.

He spoke briefly to reporters as he left the building in Knightsbridge, west London at 2pm after it was claimed the whistleblower was set to be kicked out and arrested with ‘hours or days’.

Later on Twitter Ecuador’s minister of foreign affairs, Jose Valencia, insisted the claims were ‘unfounded’.

Wikileaks made the claims in a series of Tweets Thursday night citing unnamed sources in the Ecuadorean authorities as confirming Mr Assange’s seven-year stay would end imminently.

Armed police were also outside the west London embassy as protestors began arriving at the building early this morning following online calls for people to ‘protect’ the controversial whistleblower.
