Reps Member Presents Scorecard To Constituents

Member of the House of Representatives representing Lagos Mainland Federal Constituency, Hon. Olajide Jimoh, stormed his constituents to give an account of his stewardship.

For Olajide Jimoh, who have been in active politics for over two decades, accountability and transparency are major components of political representation hence the meeting to tell his people what he has done in the last one year since the beginning of his second term in office.

He informed his constituents that the National Assembly has passed a total of one thousand and thirty-nine (1,039) Bills through the first reading and sponsored by only 177 members, in which he’s one of them. He said the bills will impact positively on Nigerians when they become operational.

The lawmaker, during a press conference in Lagos, said individually, he has sponsored ten Bills. The bills are Nigerian Sports Anti-Doping Agency -HB 534 – 1st Reading; Chartered Institute of Islamic Finance Professional Bill – HB 457 – 1st Reading; FCT Urban Development Bill – HB 707 – 1st Reading; National Urban Development and Regional Commission Bill – HB 388 – 2nd Reading; and National Humanitarian Bureau Establishment Bill – HB 290 – 1st Reading.

Others are Nigerian Tourism Development Authority Amendment Bill – HB 127 – 3rd Reading; Weight Miscellaneous Act Amendment Bill – HB 401 – 1st Reading; Passport Miscellaneous Act Amendment Bill – HB 541 – 1st Reading; National Anthem and Pledge Compliance Bill – HB 393 – 1st Reading; and Employee’s Renumeration Bill – HB 389 – 1st Reading.

The former council Chairman noted that aside from individual sponsored bills he’s likewise active and involved in robust debates with adequate representation among others.

Jimoh in his words said: “I am a messenger of the people, waiting for their messages to be delivered at the appropriate quarters”, and indeed, not only delivering the messages of my people but also in collaboration with other members for adequate representation.”

“The house has robustly carried out its constitutional duties of making legislation, reviewing and monitoring the activities of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDA’s) of the Federal Government.”

While thanking the people of Lagos Mainland federal constituency, for giving him their mandate and support, he promised to continually strive to attract dividends of democracy.

The lawmaker stated that in the area of extra legislative programmes and activities, he has so far facilitated the ongoing Road Construction at Nubi Close,Ebute-Metta; Ongoing Construction of Classrooms at Iponri Primary School, Ebute-Metta; Provision of Motorized Borehole at Otumara, Ebute-Metta; and Ongoing Construction of Health Centre at Makoko, Yaba.

He stated further that he has facilitated the provision of boreholes at Otto Community; Freeman Street, Ebute-Metta East; Abule Nla Road, Ebute-Metta West; G. Cappa, Ebute-Metta; Down Ajoke, Yaba; Igbobi Sabe, Yaba; Ayemowa Close, Yaba; House of Lagoon, Yaba; and Jebba, Ebute-Metta East.

In the area of empowerment and poverty alleviation, he has distributed Grinding Machines and Hair Dryers to over 150, Distribution of exercise books to Senior Secondary School students in his constituents, entrepreneurship training and empowerment (financial support) for over 300 women and youths, facilitation of employment into federal and state MDAs and lockdown palliative to CDAs, Traders, Artisans etc.

According to the lawmaker, other programmes embarked on are The annual quiz competition for senior schools and free surgical operation Jimoh Medical & Support Initiative.

While concluding his speech, the lawmaker enjoined his constituents to continue following the government’s guidelines on the global pandemic. “I shall be shirking in my responsibility if I fail to talk about COVID-19, the world pandemic disease that has ravaged the whole world. Please let us be our brother’s keeper and follow the regulations of the World Health Organisation (W.H.O) to Keep Safe. My prayer to God Almighty is to heal the world.”
