A renowned right activist and public commentator, Comrade Razaq Olokoba has faulted the remarks of the former Anambra State Governor, Mr Peter Obi that, President Muhammadu Buhari can’t use development of infrastructure to improve the economy.

In a chat with newsmen in Lagos Wednesday morning, Olokoba expressed surprise that, an erudite financial expert like Mr Peter Obi could not recognize the link between the infrastructure development and economic growth, saying, even a layman on the street is aware that infrastructure development is an effective vehicle to economic growth of any society.

The activist, who added that, the role of infrastructure development in the growth of the economy in any nation of the world can never be overemphasized cited an example of good road which he said always facilitates easy and prompt delivery of goods and services at record time and thereby leads to economic revival and growth, wondering what could have happened to the economy if the goods and personnel failed to reach their destination to benefit the good people of Nigeria!

Apart from roads, other infrastructures like housing, airports, stadia, sea and dry ports, schools and hospitals are vital organs of economic development, asserting that, “these are indisputable facts that Buhari is on the right path towards economic growth through his quest for infrastructure development.”

Speaking further, Olokoba, who is the National President of the Campaign for Dignity in Governance (CDG), said it is gratifying to note that the Minister in charge of infrastructure development, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN), is doing a yeoman job by turning roads that were hitherto like relics of the war across the nation into smooth and motorable ones, stating that, without doubt, Fashola’s performance has contributed immensely to the growth and development of the national economy.

Against this background, Olokoba stressed the need for the people of Nigeria to appreciate the President’s good job through his Minister in charge of infrastructure development, Fashola, insisting that, Buhari deserves accolades and not condemnation.

Recall Mr.Peter Obi was quoted to have said during a Platform Discourse that, President Buhari can’t use infrastructure to improve the economy, condemning President Muhammadu Buhari’s policy of trying to stimulate the Nigerian economy by erecting and renovating critical infrastructure as a cornerstone of his administration’s economic revival policy.

Obi suggested investment in education and the SME (Small, Medium Enterprises) sector to deal with poverty instead of developing infrastructure.”
