Wolves Lose Rui Patricio To Head Injury In Liverpool Loss

Diogo Jota was the hero for Liverpool as his lone goal was enough for a 1-0 win over Wolves, who lost goalkeeper Rui Patricio to a nasty head injury late on.

The Portuguese goalkeeper was on the receiving end of an involuntary knee to the head from teammate Conor Coady while defending against a Mohamed Salah strike – which was eventually disallowed for offside.

Patricio was treated for 15 minutes and had to be taken from the match on a stretcher, before being replaced by John Ruddy.

In a situation eerily similar to that of teammate Raul Jimenez, who suffered a fractured skull in a clash of heads with David Luiz earlier in the season.

Thankfully after the game Wolves coach Nuno Espirito Santo allayed fears over Patricio’s injury.

“We just had an update now, he’s OK,” said Nuno. “We have spoken already. He is OK. All these situations when it is the head get us worried. He is going to recover.”

Jota celebrates goal

In terms of the game, there were few clear cut chances for both teams and former Wolves man Jota rifled home the eventual winner just after the break, which rekindled Liverpool’s top four hopes.

Jurgen Klopp’s men moved into sixth place in the Premier League table, and are five points behind Chelsea who occupy the coveted fourth position.
