The dreaded coronavirus (COVID-19) has spread to the South East; even as confirmed cases in Nigeria rose further to 81 late on Friday night.
As a matter of fact; 11 new cases of the coronavirus were confirmed by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) by 11:55pm. Of the lot, two cases were confirmed in Enugu State; thereby making it the first state in the South East to report the pandemic.
This was disclosed by the agency via its official handle on the micro-blogging site, Twitter.
‘‘11 new cases of #COVID19 have been reported in Nigeria; 8 in Lagos, 2 in Enugu & 1 in Edo State. As at 11:55pm 27th March, there are 81 confirmed cases of #COVID19 reported in Nigeria. 3 have been discharged with 1 death,’’ the NCDC revealed.

Meanwhile, Lagos State remains the epicentre of the coronavirus pandemic in Nigeria. The state recorded eight new cases, further swelling the number of confirmed cases to 52.
Further, the breakdown shows that Abuja is next with 14 cases; closely followed by Ogun and Oyo with three confirmed cases each. Next in line is Bauchi, newentrants Enugu and Edo which recorded a fresh case in the latest update; all accounting for two cases each. Ekiti, Rivers and Osun bring up the rear with one case each.
Meanwhile, the NCDC had initially reported five new confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Friday. Specifically, three of the cases had been recorded in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). In addition, the other two were recorded in Oyo State. No new case was reported in Lagos.

In total, 16 new cases were confirmed on Friday.
Equally important, the latest update by the NCDC situates Lagos as the hot-spot of the coronavirus infection; further justifying the actions being taken by the Lagos State Government in curtailing the spread of the virus.
