Varane Sows Doubt About His Future At Real Madrid

Raphael Varane spoke to the media on Monday ahead of Real Madrid’s Champions League semi-final tie against Chelsea, yet the most interesting thing to have come out of the press conference was the uncertainty about his future with Los Blancos.

The 28-year-old has a contract until 2022 and is not keen on renewing, as revealed by Marca, and it seem increasingly likely that a departure is on the cards.

“My future is clear, I’m focused on the end of the season. That’s the most important thing,” Varane said during Monday’s pre-match press conference.

Varane has been at Real Madrid for almost the entirety of his professional playing career, having joined from Lens in 2011/12. He has won everything with the club, while he also lifted the World Cup with France in 2018.

Given that there are doubts about whether Sergio Ramos will stay at Real Madrid, with his contract set to expire on June 30, Varane also leaving would bring to an end one of the most successful centre-back partnerships in Los Blancos’ history.
