NBA LeBron James Agrees Two-year Extension With Lakers

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James has agreed a new contract extension with the franchise until 2023.

This date is significant as James has publicly stated his desire to play alongside his son, Bronny, who could become NBA Draft eligible from 2023.

Shams Charania, a leading journalist for The Athletic and Stadium, has been informed by the CEO of Klutch Sports, Rich Paul, that LeBron has penned a new contract.

James had a contract this coming season, for which he will be paid 39.2 million dollars, and an option to renew ahead of the 2021/22 season for 41 million dollars. Finally, the agreement with the Lakers extends his contract to the 2021/22 and 2022/23 seasons for the maximum salary allowed.

Dream of playing with his son is closer to becoming a reality

It’s no coincidence that LeBron has agreed to extend his contract until 2023, when his son Bronny will graduate from high school and may have the option to enter the NBA Draft if the league and the NBPA change the high school access rule.

At present players must complete one year in college before declaring for the draft, but there is talk that this could change.

After having won everything, King James’ big dream is to be able to play on the same team with his son in the NBA for at least a year, as the player has publicly acknowledged over the last year. After his renewal, his dream is closer to becoming a reality.
