Daniil Medvedev became the 54th finalist of the Australian Open when he defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas in Friday’s semi-final in straight sets with a score of 6-4, 6-2 and 7-5.

Tsitsipas was admirable in his determination throughout the clash, but the quality of Medvedev was just too much on the day.

The match lasted just two hours and nine minutes, and Medvedev will now turn his focus to Novak Djokovic in the final of the competition.

In terms of his last 20 matches on hard court services, Medvedev has won all of them, and 12 have come against members of the global top ten.

Medvedev is the third Russian to play in the final of the Australian Open, following on from Yevgeny Kafelnikov and Marat Safin.
