Conor McGregor took to social media to announce that he is pulling out of the rematch against Dusitn Poirier in July after the two men exchanged words on Twitter over a donation issue.
Poirier ironically called out McGregor for failing to donate half a million euros to his foundation after pledging to do so following their fight at UFC 257.
“McGregor you also predicted a donation to my foundation and you and your team stopped responding after the fight in January,” Poirier wrote on Twitter.
“See you soon. July 10th Paid In Full!”
McGregor reacted instantly and publicly explained that he has to follow a certain donation process to fulfil his promise.
“A donation, not a debt,” posted McGregor.
“We’ve been awaiting the plans for the money that never came. I do with all my donations.
“Know where it’s going dot for dot. Otherwise it goes walking. As is the case with a lot of these foundations, sadly. You took the McG over the belt shows I was right.”
But Poirier didn’t pull out of the conversation and insisted that McGregor’s team has yet to get in touch for the donation.
“One hundred percent never a debt,” replied Poirier.
“You offered, we accepted, and like I said your Team never responded to our emails regarding the process of where funds would be put to work!
“July 10th you will taste defeat yet again.”
Following Poirier’s remarks, McGregor threaten to call off the fight and find a new opponent to face on the ring.
“You’re ripped you inbred hillbilly,” wrote McGregor.
“Why do you wink with your ears? You f***ing brain dead hillbilly. 500k with no plan in place.
“Ye hang tight. Fool. You must be new to money.
“The fight is off btw. I’m going to fight someone else on the 10th. Good luck on your old contract kid.”
