LG Poll: Lagos Commissioner, Council Chair Attacked With Gun At APC Rally

Ahead of Saturday, July 24th, 2021, local government elections in Lagos State, the Honourable Commissioner for Waterfront, Arc. Ahmed Kabir and Executive Chairman, Agege Local Government, Alhaji Ganiyu Kola Egunjobi, on Thursday were attacked with gun at the mega rally of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to mobilise electorate to vote for the party candidates.

Egunjobi, the chairmanship candidate of the ruling party has been in a long-drawn battle with Olu of Agege, Oba Kamila Oyedeji Isiba.

Their face-off took a violent turn yesterday during the rally of APC faithful who moved around the area.

An eyewitness said the council boss and Kabir were leading other party supporters to the palace to seek Oba Isiba’s support when gunshots were purportedly fired at the procession with people scampering to safety.

According to report, the gunshots came from the direction of the palace with one person simply identified as Ashaka hit by the bullet in his left ear.

A source said the monarch is a fan of the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Sola Osolana, and were allegedly in the middle of a meeting at the palace with some Baales in the area when the trigger-happy hoodlums purportedly shot at the APC supporters.

The State Commissioner for Waterfront confirmed the attack saying: “We all saw what happened today, it’s so sad that those that are the custodian of our culture and heritage engage themselves in politics. I’m highly disappointed but we all thank God for our lives.”
