LASCOPA Recovers About N40 Million For Consumers Within One Month

The Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) has assisted some consumers to recover about N40 million as compensation and outright refund for returned substandard goods within a month of intervention and mediation.

The General Manager, LASCOPA, Mr. Afolabi Solebo Esq. made this known while reviewing the activities of the Agency in the last month, adding that the State government is committed to the protection of consumers from all forms of unwholesome practices from producers and manufactures in Lagos.

According to him, “Some of the beneficiaries of the refund that the Agency facilitated include Butterbust Global Foods Ltd, who was refunded N7 million after the 100KVA Generating Set bought from C. Woermann (Nig) Ltd malfunctioned immediately after purchase; Biaxial Project Solution Ltd recovered the sum of N7.6m from an Automobile Company for the purchase of a defective vehicle, while Showumi Brothers & Co. was repaid the sum of N653,200 for the purchase of a defective white cement bought”.

Barrister Solebo, therefore, advised consumers in the State to be more painstaking in checking for products details whether on the shelves or otherwise before purchase, while also imploring retailers to ensure a routine check of the state of their products before display so as to facilitate immediate removal of expired and unwholesome goods.

While noting that the services of LASCOPA are rendered free of charge and at no cost to the consumers, he urged all residents to take advantage of the opportunity by forwarding their complaints to the Agency to ensure their rights are protected.
