La Casa de Papel/Money Heist Season 5 Will Be Its Last
La Casa de Papel (a.k.a Money Heist), one of our favourite Spanish-language shows on Netflix, is definitely returning for a season 5, Worldtopnewsng reports.
However, the news is bittersweet. Money Heist‘s fifth season will be its last.
Given the show’s success, and the characters’ personalities, the series’s renewal for one more season is no surprise. After all, the Casa de Papel crew has never turned down a chance to pull off a high-stakes robbery. After walking away with €984 million from the National Mint of Spain, one would think that La Casa de Papel/Money Heist‘s robbers would unzip their red jumpsuits and retire with their fortune. But you’d be wrong. Much like Danny Ocean of the Ocean’s Eleven series, the Professor and his friends are always game for another heist.
What will happen in season 5? Will they rob the U.S. Mint? Disappear with every ATM on the European continent? Hypnotize the world with a rendition of “Bella Ciao?” We wouldn’t put any of these ideas past the Professor.

While it’s uncertain when season 5 of La Casa de Papel will land on Netflix, here’s what we do know: For as long as the Professor keeps dreaming up plans, the show’s passionate fan base will tune in.

According to an official statement from Netflix, Money Heist began filming on August 3, 2020. Filming has continued through 2021: Cast members Itziar Ituño, Pedro Alonso, and Alvaro Morte all posted behind-the-scenes photos in February. Alonso’s caption alongside a photo with co-star Rodrigo de la Serna translated to “how great it was to meet you,” suggested that filming is nearing its end.

If we had to guess, the season will have a 2021 release date.
Netflix has not confirmed a release date. However, given the filming timeline, it’s likely that the fifth season of La Casa de Papel will come out at some point in the latter half of 2021.
Spoiler: The 10-episode season will end in the Professor’s band splitting up.
There are only 10 episodes standing between us and the show’s final bow. According to creator Pina, Money Heist‘s final season will depict how the Professor’s crew of criminals splits up. He promises an “extreme” and “epic” season.
“We’ve spent almost a year thinking about how to break up the band. How to put the Professor on the ropes. How to get into situations that are irreversible for many characters,” Pina said in an official statement, per Deadline. “The result is the fifth part of La Casa de Papel. The war reaches its most extreme and savage levels, but it is also the most epic and exciting season.”

The main cast will likely return for La Casa de Papel season 5.
The usual suspects will most likely be back. There are the actors who play members of the Professor’s crew: Úrsula Corberó (Tokio), Jaime Lorente Lopez (Denver), Pedro Alonso (Berlin), Alba Flores (Nairobi), Miguel Herrán (Rio), Darko Peric (Helsinki), Itziar Ituño (Raquel), and Esther Acebo (Monica). Recently, Rodrigo de la Serna (Palermo) and Luka Peros (Marsella) have joined the team.
Then, there are the newcomers. Najwa Nimri, who played Alicia the police inspector, has already posted behind-the-scenes photos. Diána Gomez is Tatiana, Berlin’s girlfriend. After prominent roles in season 4, we’ll see how they figure into future storylines.

Season 4 ends on quite a cliffhanger.
According to La Casa de Papel creator Álex Pina, there’s never been a season like season 4. “I think this is the riskiest season, in which we really gave a very unexpected plot twist, and I think it’s the one that will shock the most. The final episode is exuberant,” Pina told Oprah Daily’s digital director Arianna Davis during a set visit in Spain.
After seeing the finale for ourselves, we can concur. In the last episode of La Casa de Papel‘s fourth season, Lisbon is reunited with the crew. Thanks to the Professor’s ingenious maneuvering, they all manage to escape from the Bank of Spain.
This moment of triumph is undercut, however, by Alicia showing up at the Professor’s private hideaway. She holds a gun to his head. But the scene is complicated: Alicia is now in trouble with the law herself. Will Alicia turn on the Professor? Or, now that she’s a fugitive as well, could they…team up? Stranger things have happened.
La Casa de Papel/Money Heist may have spinoffs.
Even when La Casa de Papel is over, Pina isn’t finished with its characters. He’s dreaming up ideas of what he can do next.

“We do have many possibilities for some spinoffs, and I think that’s thanks to the strong and powerful identities of the characters,” Pina told Oprah Daily. “We’ve always looked for characters to have a very complex, layered design. So I think almost every character of Money Heist has a duality that we would like to see in a spinoff. We could watch any of them in other contexts.”
Pina predicts that Arturo (Enrique Arce), the former director of the National Mint of Spain, would have a black comedy. That said, through his eyes, Money Heist already is a black comedy.
