Everton In Crisis Mode After Palace Defeat

Spread the love

Sunday afternoon will be one to forget for Everton supporters, with their club plunged deeper into crisis mode as Rafa Benitez’s side limped to a 3-1 defeat against Crystal Palace. It was perhaps the days when the last of Benitez’s remaining allies at Goodison Park finally lost their faith in the Spanish coach, with a number of his tactical decisions questioned by supporters.

A quiet first half was ended by a fine Conor Gallagher goal, as the on-loan midfielder continued his excellent form since arriving at Selhurst Park.

After the break Everton tried to get back into the game by substituting Richarlison off for Salomon Rondon, a move which sparked incredible consternation amongst the travelling Toffees support.

Almost immediately the visitors found themselves 2-0 down, with James Tomkins scoring from a set piece.

Rondon would actually pull a goal back for the Blues with 20 minutes to play, setting up what could have been a dramatic finish, but Gallagher doubled his tally and secured all three points with a stunning strike in the third minute of injury time.

It was a defeat that Everton couldn’t afford, even with their late victory over Arsenal on Monday having given them some breathing room above the relegation zone. After yet another show of dissatisfaction from support towards the coach, you do wonder how long this can continue.
