The Ministry of Health in Kenya confirmed 20 more coronavirus-related fatalities on Thursday and 965 new infections after conducting 7,311tests for the virus.

New infections were found in those aged between 2 months old and 97 years old.

The number brings the tally of confirmed deaths to 2,560 and infections to 153,488 after the ministry conducted 1,624,663 tests since March of 2020.

While 88 people were reported having recovered on Thursday, that overall number stands at 105,367, according to the ministry.

Regarding the ongoing vaccination campaign, health officials said “by the close of the day Thursday, a total of 778,254 persons had been vaccinated against COVID-19 disease countrywide.”

The vaccinated include 446,329 people aged 58 years and older, 148,358 health workers, 119,161 teachers and 64,406 security officers.

Kenya has been experiencing a third wave of the virus where several measures and restrictions have been imposed in the eastern African country, including the cessation of all movement by road, rail, or air into and out of disease-infected areas.

Counties under lockdown are Nairobi, Machakos, Kajiado, Kiambu, and Nakuru.

An ongoing nationwide curfew was revised in late March to commence at 8 p.m. and end at 4 a.m. in affected areas.
