Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has promised to scale up the level of development in Okpella community upon his reelection in the September 19 governorship election in the State.

Obaseki made the promised while addressing the crowd of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) supporters at Ward 6, Imiekure, Okpella in Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo on Sunday.

The governor, accompanied by his deputy, Mr Philip Shaibu and the immediate past chairman of the PDP in Edo, Mr Dan Orbih, bemoaned the fact that Okpella is still the way it was even with the over N6 billion investment in the area.

While noting that he would not be discouraged with the failure of past governments in the state to take advantage of these huge investments to turn the fortune of the community for the better, he vowed to change the narrative within the next 24 months.

For a start, Obaseki promised to construct the 12.7Km Imiekure road and also take advantage of the rich soil through the introduction of mechanising farming.

According to him, “let’s not duel in the past, the future is our only concern now and we need to start doing things to improve on the living conditions of the people.

“With what I saw of this 12.7KM road when coming here, I am not campaigning again but to promise you that this road will be constructed and inaugurated within the next 24 months.

“As for our teeming youths, we will work with Dangote and BUA companies that are located here to improve on their employability by training and employing them.

“While the road to be constructed Will enhance agriculture in the area, we will also introduce mechanise farming to create more employment opportunities.

“I promise you that your years of suffering are over; PDP is here to change this narrative.”

Speaking at the rally, Orbih, the South-South Vice Chairman of the PDP, said that Mr Adams Oshiomhole’s interest when he was the Governor of Edo, was to develop his Iyamoh community where he hails from to the detriment of other parts of the state.

Orbih said being part of Etsako and the state in general, it is regrettable that Okpella is the way it was.

“This is the difference between Oshiomhole and Obaseki, while Oshiomhole’s major concern was to develop Iyamoh, Obaseki is interested in the whole parts of the state.

“It is even more shameful that with the indigene of the people who are from this place in Oshiomhole’s government, they all failed to attract any meaningful development to Okpella.

“We need not be bothered about the APC candidate because Oshiomhole has already told us who he is.

“The problem Oshiomhole had with Obaseki is his refusal to share the State resources with some individuals. Obaseki is interested in the well being of every Edolites,” he said.

Similarly, Mr Luckman Aikamokhwe, who spoke on behalf of Okpella leaders in the community, said the people are firmly with the governor.

He stressed that the prudent way which the government has piloted the affairs of the state has seen development across all sector of the state.
