A pro-democracy and human rights organization, Campaign for Dignity in Governance (CDG), has thrown its weight behind the decision of the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry to grant the Lekki Concession Company (LCC), to commence operations at the Lekki Toll Gate closed down since October last year over the alleged shooting of the #EndSARS protesters by the military.

The group, in a statement from its National Convener, Comrade Razaq Olokoba reasoned that, keeping the multi-billion naira project under key and lock would amount to double jeopardy for Lagos State the suffered needless destructions from the hands of the hoodlums who hid under the protest to wreak havoc on the state.

The CDG called the attention of the antagonists of the reopening to the fact that the wanton destructions visited on the state need funds to rebuild, reminding that, the havoc was so devastatingly huge to the extent that the state Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu had to appeal to the Federal Government in Abuja for assistance.

If the projects continue to be under lock, according to the organization, a reliable avenue to raise fund for the rebuilding of the state would be in jeopardy, pointing out that, rebuilding of the state is in the best interest of the generality of, not the people of Lagos alone but all the people of Nigeria as well as the whole world in general.

While describing as pathetic and unfortunate, the protest that turned sour, the CDG, reminded that the state government has done the needful by instituting a Judicial Panel of Inquiry to look into the matter, doubting whether the reopening of the Toll Gate could in any way tamper with any needed evidence at the hearing.

The group therefore appealed for understanding of the precarious financial situation the state found itself after the sad incident just as those planning to occupy the Toll Gate on Saturday, February 13, are advised to have a rethink so as to forestall a repeat of the last unfortunate experience.

It warned that those protagonists of #OccupyLekkiTollGate might be rightly or wrongly be tagged as enemies of Lagos whose preoccupation is to further destroy the state to satisfy their pay masters, pointing out that, since the panellist has given a go-ahead to the LCC to commence operation, it should be taken that no evidence could be obliterated any more that could hinder their performance.

Concluding, the CDG further urged the residents to ignore any call to engage in any violent act because it would do nobody any good, admonishing that, “our collective preoccupation should be a civil way of mobilization and sensitization towards the growth, progress and development of the society.”
