The legislator representing Oshodi/Isolo Constituency 1 in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Olusola Abdulhakeem Sokunle, has enjoined Nigerians to continue to live peacefully together as a federal state, saying that May 29 has become a historic day in the democratic calendar of the country.
Hon. Sokunle, in a press statement issued today in Lagos, to newsmen, explained that the country’s democracy has come of age and that it has developed from been described as nascent to matured democracy.
The lawmaker explained further that from all indications, the expected democratic values and ethos which are prevalent in western democracies are as well in existence in Nigeria democracy, stating that Nigerians should continue to play their roles in making Nigeria democracy strong.
He stated “Our democracy has gone beyond nascent as some scholars always describe it to more matured one now.
The ethos and values of democracy as a government of the people by the people and for the people are prevalent now and this shows democracy in Nigeria has come to stay. Despite challenges which the democracy faced sometimes ago, the media stood strong to consolidate the democracy.
“We have to give kudos to the media also in their consolidation role”.
“In the past two years of my representation, I have shown to the people of my constituency who gave me the mandate to represent them that their votes were not a waste. Within short period, I have built 13 boreholes for my people
which have never happened before in the history of the constituency. I have trained 4 batches of Oshodi youths in different computer skills and digital marketing. I sponsored a professional boxer who resides in Oshodi to an international competition which he won.
“I facilitated several state projects to the constituency like Brown road, Igbehinadun street and other roads
constructed by Governor Ambode in Oshodi/Isolo Constituency 1. I cannot continue to state all
what I have done here because I believe the people themselves are there to take stock”
He added “It is understandable that the economy of the country is currently undergoing restructuring which I will urge Nigerians to continue to exercise patient because the restructuring would at the end make our economy system strong”
He, however, reassured the people of his constituency of more facilitation of state projects and also empowerment programmes that would meaningfully change their economic situation.
