The leadership of Ikpide-Irri community in Isoko South Local Government Area, Delta State, has commended the touch of professionalism employed by Portplus Ltd in the execution and delivery of the community’s access road recently constructed by the Delta state government.

Briefing the press shortly after its annual general conference held between Thursday 18 and Saturday 20 November 2021, in the community, President-General, Engr. Edhemo Lucky, while warning mischief makers to quit creating unnecessary issues around the project for selfish aims, expressed the community’s gratitude to the State Governor, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa for his desire to see to the completion of the road project and ensuring that Ikpide is developed just like every other community in the state.

“Gentlemen of the Press, we are glad to have you here in our community today once again. Thank you very much for coming in a great day like this. Today is the last day of Ikpide annual conference 2021. This is a conference that has representatives of all chapters in attendance as well as other illustrious sons and daughters of the community.

“Among key issues, we deliberated upon today was the community’s ongoing internal roads project as well as the election of officers to fill various vacant positions in the community development union. We just concluded the election to fill all vacant positions and we have also constituted the home branch exco. A new executive has taken over the mantle of leadership in the town”, he said.

Narrating how the road project has improved the economy of the place, the Lucky said the people are excited by the new looks the community is wearing, and that contrary to what was being speculated in some quarters, the standard of the road is okay and that those areas that are already in use has remained intact after over 2 years of continued usage.

“Now to the road, we talked about it in our conference. We are happy that the road is near completion. Generally, everyone is satisfied with the job the contractor have done. I am talking about the Ikpide concrete internal road network. Our prayer is that the remaining portion is completed as promised. So that we can take over the road and use it to our benefit.

“Meanwhile, I want to say that those parts of the road that has been completed have been in use for quite some time now let’s say over 2years and everybody is happy using it. No portion of the road has failed. This speaks of the quality of the work done. Coming into Ikpide and going out is now easy. Visitors are now coming into the community at will to transact their businesses. People come to buy products here from as far as Port Harcourt. All our neighbouring communities are trading with us and trading has become easy and our people are enjoying it. So we just pray that this road network that has been put in place for us will last for a very very long time.

“We thank His Excellency Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa for his magnanimity for community and his giant strides in the state and also our illustrious son, High Chief Okpugo whom God used to bring light to this community”, he said.

The president-general also appealed to the state government to come to their aid as the community is about to be washed away by the rampaging erosion

“Ikpide community needs shoreline protection. Erosion is a big problem in this community right now. If nothing is done about it, in no distance time this community may be completely washed away by flood. God forbid. So, we need shoreline protection so as to stop erosion from taking over the community. Again, we should also be considered in the area of electricity. We will be very grateful if these requests are attended to.

“Once again, we thank the Governor for all that he has done for us. We want him to disregard those negative publications from mischief-makers that this job is shoddy. Such position is only in the imagination of those who do not want good things in the community. We are happy with what you have done for us so far even as we pray for more,” he said.
