Germany’s COVID-19 vaccine rollout has slowed to its lowest level in nearly six months, official figures showed on Monday.

The Robert Koch Institute reported that 87,490 vaccines were administered across the country on Sunday, marking the lowest figure since Feb. 21.

Germany had been administering nearly 800,000 vaccines per day in June, but this dropped below 600,000 in July and further down to under 300,000 this month, according to official figures.

If the vaccine rollout continues at the current pace, it will take at least 146 more days to fully vaccinate the population in Germany, the weekly Die Zeit reported.

So far, 53.3 million people in Germany, or 64.1% of the population, have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 49 million, or 59%, have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

The government’s goal has been to vaccinate 70% of the population by the end of the summer in line with other EU member countries.
