Edo State has continued to record success in the management of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, recording no COVID-19 related fatality in the last 43 days and one new confirmed case in the last five days.

The State COVID-19 Incident Manager, Dr. Andrew Obi, disclosed this during the daily virtual meeting of the State COVID-19 Taskforce, chaired by the State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki.

He said the government has intensified decontamination of homes and offices of infected persons, contact tracing and line listing activities, sensitization, and strict enforcement of the state’s COVID-19 preventive protocols, as well as the vaccination of eligible members of the public, among other activities to contain the second wave of the pandemic.

According to him, the state, in the last 24 hours, collected 84 samples and recorded one new case, one recovery and zero death, with four active cases that are being managed at various treatment and isolation centres in Edo.

Obi, who noted that the state has so far vaccinated over 33, 843 persons with the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine, urged residents to support the government’s efforts at curbing the spread of the virus by ensuring compliance with guidelines to contain the pandemic.

“We urge everyone to support the government’s efforts at containing the pandemic by complying with guidelines to curtail the spread of the virus. We must continue to wear your facemask when in public; wash your hands regularly under running water, use alcohol-based hand sanitizers and observe social distancing,” he charged.
