President Buhari Announces His Intention To Seek Re-election In 2019
President Muhammadu Buhari has announced his ambition to run for the Presidency again. This was confirmed from tweets by Personal Assistant to the President on New Media, Bashir Ahmad and Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai.
El-Rufai revealed Buhari made the announcement to the National Executive Committee of the APC in Abuja while Ahmad in his tweet stated;
Information had creeped in that part of the reasons President Buhari is travelling to the United Kingdom is to go and rest as he will undergo thorough medical check ups over his reportedly unstable health before resuming back to face the rigours of Presidential campaign.
Apart from the President’s declaration to seek re-election, the NEC ratified the recommendation of the technical committee calling for the conduct of elections for national and state executive officers of the party. This is sequel to the illegal tag President Buhari placed on the granting of Party Chairman, Odigie Oyegun a one year tenure elongation. Several chieftains of the party had hailed the President’s decision to openly criticise the tenure elongation as they prepare for the 2019 election amidst mixed feelings amongst a largely disappointed populace.
