The Labour Party has achieved a decisive victory in the 2024 United Kingdom general election, bringing an end to 14 years of Conservative rule.
In his victory speech, Labour leader Keir Starmer heralded the result as the beginning of transformative change, exclaiming, “We did it – change begins now.”
Conceding defeat, outgoing Conservative Prime Minister Rishi Sunak described the night as “difficult.”
The Liberal Democrats experienced a surge in support, while the right-wing Reform UK party, led by Nigel Farage, garnered disgruntled Conservative voters’ backing and secured a number of parliamentary seats.
Disappointingly, the Scottish National Party suffered significant losses, with party leader John Swinney characterizing the election outcome as “very poor,” resulting in the loss of numerous seats.
Throughout the election, key issues for UK voters included concerns about the cost of living, the state of the health service, and housing concerns.”
