The Edo State Government has warned property developers against erecting structures without obtaining the necessary building plan permit from the state’s Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development.

In a statement, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, Chris Abode, said violation of the state’s extant town planning laws and regulations would not be tolerated, warning that the government is poised to administer appropriate sanctions in accordance with the laws.

Abode charged such erring developers to discontinue any form of construction works on sites and submit building plan applications to the Ministry for consideration and approval.

The statement reads: “Edo State Government has observed, with dismay, that some developers have continued the unwholesome practice of commencing the erection of structures without obtaining the necessary building plan permit from the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development.

“Government condemns this act of violation of the state’s extant Town planning laws and regulations and is poised to administer appropriate sanctions in accordance with the laws.

“Consequently, all such developers are to discontinue any form of construction works at site and submit building plan applications to the Ministry for consideration and approval.”

“For the avoidance of doubt, developers who fail to comply will be visited with the full sanctions of the laws, including removal of such illegal structures and recovering the cost of carrying the action,” Abode stated.
