The 2020/21 Champions League final between Manchester City and Chelsea will be played at the Estadio do Dragao in Porto, Portugal.

UEFA have been forced to move the match from its original host stadium in Istanbul because of travel restrictions between the UK and Turkey.

Shortly after the identity of the two finalists was known, the British government placed Turkey on its red list for travel, meaning fans would have to quarantine for ten days upon their return to the UK.

UEFA, who had allocated 4,000 tickets for fans of each team, were therefore forced to switch the host venue. The British government and Football Association proposed Wembley as an alternative.

However, the British government wouldn’t allow special exemption to quarantine rules for journalists, sponsors and other attendees from abroad.

Portugal will grant these exemptions. It is on the UK’s green list of countries, where quarantine is not necessary upon return.

Fans from both Manchester City and Chelsea will therefore be allowed to travel to Porto for the final, as well as media and sponsors.
