Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar has paid President Olusegun Obasanjo a visit in the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta, Ogun State capital.

Abubakar, accompanied by Chairman of his Campaign Organisation and former Governor of Ogun State, Gbenga Daniel, National Chairman of the PDP, Uche Secondus and Senator representing Bayelsa East, Ben Murray Bruce, paid his first visit since his emergence as the presidential candidate of the PDP. Also accompanying Atiku was the former Governor of Cross-River State, Liyel Imoke and Ago Adebanjo.

President Obasanjo is generally believed to have always stood against the candidacy of Atiku, citing his disloyalty during his time as his number 2. Atiku, widely reported to have scuttled Obasanjo’s third term bid also said some time ago that he has no problems with Obasanjo but is not sure if the former President and Head of State has a problem with him.

Obasanjo had stated at the Four Square Gospel Church Annual Public Summit last week that Nigeria is in a dire need of a President who understands the economy. He said his friend, now late, and a former German Chancellor had stated that Africa needs leaders with good grasp of the economy.

Recall that Atiku led Obasanjo regime’s economic council, and Obasanjo has always said Buhari has no apt understanding of the economy.

Obasanjo, in 2015 supported Buhari against Goodluck Jonathan.

It is left to be seen if he will throw his weight behind his former number 2, whom he has often criticised as details of the meeting are awaited.
