The Information Communications Technology (ICT) Centre of the Abia State headquarters of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), was weekend, burgled by unknown persons who carted away some sensitive materials from the centre.
Materials stolen from the centre include five Laptop computers said to contain vital information of the last governorship elections in the state, files and other documents and sensitive data of the electorate.
The big puzzle however is that the centre is secured by a combined team of soldiers, Policemen, Civil Defense Corps and the commission’s internal security operatives.
Staff of the commission were said to have arrived their duty posts Monday morning to discover that one of the windows in the ICT Centre was damaged through which the criminals gained entry into the centre.
When contacted on the issue, the state Police Public Relation Officer, Geoffrey Ogbonna said he was yet to receive a report on the matter but promised to verify from the DPO in charge of that area.
