Wales Fight Back To Draw With Switzerland

The spoils were shared in Baku, as Wales and Switzerland played out a 1-1 draw in the second match of Euro 2020. Breel Embolo put Switzerland ahead at the start of the second half, but Kieffer Moore justified his position in the starting line-up by heading in an equaliser 15 minutes from time.

Although there were no goals in the first half, each team had a glorious opportunity to score. First, Moore provoked a great tip over the bar from Yann Sommer, before Fabian Schar’s neat backheel had to be well saved by Danny Ward.

After the break, Embolo headed in at a Xherdan Shaqiri corner to give the Swiss the lead. They looked in control for a while after that, but eventually Wales managed to equalise with a corner of their own, as a well-worked routine ended with Moore’s bandaged head turning the ball past Sommer.

Mario Gavranovic thought he’d given Switzerland another lead with just minutes remaining, but his well-taken strike was ruled out for offside. He and his Swiss teammates kept pushing for a winner in the closing stages, but it finished 1-1 to leave these two sides second and third, between Italy and Turkey, in Group A.
