Right Group Praises Sanwo-Olu Over Improvement In Water Transportation

A youth organization, Congress of Progressive Youth (CPY), has expressed satisfaction on the improvement in the water transportation in Lagos State, saying, the state governor; Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu deserves commendation for the project that would no doubt boost the economy of the state.

The organization, in a statement signed by its Convener, Comrade Adebayo Oyenekan and made available to the media in Badagry, took a critical look at the seven (7) new boats handed over to Lagos Ferry Service (LAGFERRY), by the governor and described the action as the right step to the right direction.

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, last Tuesday handed over the seven newly procured high capacity passenger boats by the state government to the management of Lagos Ferry Services, LAGFERRY to improve water transportation in the state, and thereby boost the economy of the state through safe and faster transportation system.

The Seven new boats, according to reports were MF Elegushi (30 passengers), MF Apapa (30 passengers), MF Onigando (30 passengers), MF Majidun (30 passengers), MF Zangbeto (50 Passengers), MF Eko Akete (50 passengers), and MF Ehingbeti (Utility boat).

More interestingly, the group said, was the fact that all the new boats were built by Nigerian boat builders with the promise of the governor to support local manufacturers, praising the governor for walking his talk in tandem with his pre-election manifesto.

The development, the statement said, the project was in line with the first ‘T’ of the THEMES agenda that stands for Traffic Management and Transportation, of which water transportation is key, asserting that, “truly, the importance of transportation on the economy in any society can never be overstretched as it is not a gainsaying that free mobility of man and goods enhance economic advancement of any nation.”

The organization further praised Sanwo-Olu for appreciating the fact that, an improvement on the water transportation would also reduce traffic hiccup on the road and thus stress and other health hazards during movement to and from workplaces, stressing the need for the boat builders to improve their capability to get patronage beyond the shore of the country.

The statement said it is gratifying that the governor has promised full assistance and maximum support to the boat builders, admonishing that, “they should seize that golden opportunity to expand their frontiers that will put the state on the world map of boat builders.”

The group expressed the delight that Governor Sanwo-Olu’s largesse is not limited to the water transportation system alone, reminding that, “he has spread his tentacles to both the rail and road systems as well.”

The statement, therefore, urged the people to double their support for Sanwo-Olu’s administration for more rains of dividends of democracy, enthusing that, “this governor, whose pedigree we know, will not disappoint in his commitment to good governance for his people.
