Twitter Users Rage At Influencer Addison Rae Over UFC Reporter Joke

UFC 264 was one of the biggest sporting events of the year and many sports stars and celebrities were in attendance at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas to see Dustin Poirier defeat Conor McGregor. Social media influencer Addison Rae was there to interview the famous guests on the red carpet, but she later caused outrage on Twitter.

Rae achieved fame on TikTok and by appearing on ‘Keeping Up With The Kardashians’ and she was given a role as a UFC reporter for this weekend. The fact that others were more qualified enraged many in the industry, especially after Rae bragged about her lack of experience.

“I studied broadcast journalism in college for three whole months to prepare for this moment,” she joked on social media.

That promoted some angry responses from others who have worked and studied in the world of journalism for a lot longer than three months.

“Do you know how many people who are more trained and qualified, who have been studying this and putting their whole life savings into college, that you took this away from,” read one reply. “I have a friend who studied for six years only to have this shoved in her face. Disgusting.”

“I went to Journalism school for two years and interned (unpaid) for another one and a half years after that,” said another. “I never got hired on and had to switch careers. Thank you for this info.”

“This is such a slap in the face to people who’ve studied for years and worked their whole lives for an opportunity like this,” added another Twitter user. “It wouldn’t be so bad if she didn’t rub in the fact that she’s underqualified and got it anyways.”

Rae appeared to take the criticism in her stride, later retweeting a post from Barstool Sports that labelled her as “the most hated UFC commentator ever”.
