Stefanos Tsitsipas overcame Andrey Rublev in Monaco to win the Monte Carlo Masters on Sunday afternoon.

The 22-year-old Greek won the match with ease, winning 6-3, 6-3 against the 23-year-old Russian to become the 71st different Masters 1000 winner.

Rublev was far from his best, exhausted form having beaten Rafa Nadal in the quarter-finals on his route to the final, but Tsitsipas was a worthy victor.

As the heavens opened, Tsitsipas broke Rublev in both sets to win in just 1 hour, 11 minutes.

It was the first final win for Tsitsipas in the Masters 1000 series, having previously lost in Toronto 2018 to Nadal and in the Mutua Madrid Open 2019 to Novak Djokovic.

What makes it even more curious is that his mother, Julia Salnikova, won the tournament in the junior category in 1981.
