Super League Side Liverpool Held By Top Flight Newcomers Leeds United

Adisappointing weekend for Europe’s self-proclaimed elite sides carried over into Monday evening as European Super League heavyweights Liverpool drew against Premier League newboys Leeds United.

Former Real Sociedad defender Diego Llorente scored a late equaliser for Leeds after Sadio Mane had scored an opener in the first half, leaving Liverpool to become the latest of the 12 breakaway sides to slip this weekend.

Despite their plans to form part of the breakaway Super League, Liverpool were fortunate to leave Elland Road with even a point in their pockets, and Leeds were clearly more than up to the contest of facing the Premier League champions.

Liverpool got the scoring up and running with half an hour played. Diogo Jota found Trent Alexander-Arnold who centred, taking Leeds goalkeeper Illan Meslier out of the equation and giving Mane a simple tap in.

Patrick Bamford had came close for Leeds as time ticked away, and it was beginning to look as though it wouldn’t be Leeds’ day.

But they got the goal they so deserved in the 87th minute. Jack Harrison delivered a pinpoint in-swinging cross that Llorente climbed highest to meet, beating two Liverpool players to the ball to head home.

Elsewhere over the weekend fellow Super League founders Real Madrid, Arsenal, Tottenham and Inter all drew, while Juventus lost away to Atalanta.
