Schlupp Goal Secure Crystal Palace Draw Against Tottenham

Jeffery Schulpp was the hero for Crystal Palace as they pegged Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham side back to ensure Spurs left Selhurst Park with just a point following a 1-1 draw.

The public were back in the stands as 2,000 people witnessed the first points Palace have taken off Tottenham in the Premier League since 2015.

Tottenham were dominant in the first half, and were denied on two occasions by Vicente Guaita in the Palace goal, after he managed smart stops from Tanguy Ndombele and Harry Kane, but it was the English forward who broke the deadlock to give Spurs the lead 23 minutes in.

Heung-min Son laid the ball nicely into the path of his strike partner and he unleashed a vicious strike from 25 yards out, which completely wrong footed Guaita and ended up in the back of the net.

Eberechi Eze beat Hugo Lloris with a curling effort from the edge of the penalty area, but he could only strike the outside of the post, but his time would come later in the second half.

Palace, to their credit, slowly grew in stature as the match progressed and eventually got their reward nine minutes from time when Schlupp helped knock in an Eze freekick, to level the game.

Spurs rallied in the final moments and Ben Davies’ mistimed cross smacked of the crossbar, then Guaita was alert enough to push Serge Aurier’s follow up away, with the Spanish goalkeeper also denying Eric Dier to ensure the points were shared.

The result means Spurs move one point clear of Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table, though the Reds face Fulham later on Sunday, and then welcome Mourinho to Anfield on Wednesday.
