Schalke have put an end to their wretched run of results in the Bundesliga with a 4-0 win over Hoffenheim on Saturday.

The victory was Schalke’s first in 31 matches in the Bundesliga in an unwanted streak that had stretched back almost 12 months.

Christian Gross, the German giant’s fourth coach of this season, achieved the club’s first Bundesliga win since against Borussia Monchengladbach in January 17, 2020.

In doing so, they avoided the Bundesliga record set by Tasmania Berlin of 31 games without a win during the 1965/66 season.

Saturday’s hero was Matthew Hoppe, who netted a hat-trick for Gross’s side inside 63 minutes before Amine Harit added a fourth goal in the 80th minute.

The win will be a morale boost for Schalke, who move off the bottom of the Bundesliga table and to within four points of guaranteed survival.
