French Open favourite Rafael Nadal eased past Dutchman Robin Haase 6-1, 6-4, 6-3 on Wednesday. It was Nadal’s 74th win at Roland Garros.
Haase posed Nadal a few problems with his varied game and his occasional power, but Nadal was always too strong on his favourite surface, making only 13 unforced errors over the course of the match.
Nadal moves through to a third-round meeting with Georgia’s Nikoloz Basilashvili, who defeated Viktor Troicki 7-6 (7/3) 7-6 (7/2) 7-6 (8/6).
After his win, Nadal said: “I’m very happy to come back on the Court Philippe Chatrier.”
“It was really hard for me last year,” Nadal added. “I’m very happy to be back on this court, which is probably the most important in my career.”
